Meaningful textiles
Just about any washable fabric can be considered—shirts and T-shirts, dresses, baby clothes, uniforms, linens, ties, and other textiles. A T-shirt quilt is one possibility, not the only one.
Custom & memory quilts
A custom quilt can begin almost anywhere: with an idea, a room, a collection of fabrics you love, or clothing and textiles that already carry a history.
Something worth keeping
For memory quilts, the goal isn’t simply to put old clothing into a quilt. It’s to create something meaningful while honoring the person, the fabric, and the memories attached to it.
We’ll decide together what should be preserved, what can be transformed, and what kind of quilt those materials want to become.
Materials
Just about any washable fabric can be considered—shirts and T-shirts, dresses, baby clothes, uniforms, linens, ties, and other textiles. A T-shirt quilt is one possibility, not the only one.
New fabric can be incorporated alongside meaningful pieces when the design calls for it, and a custom quilt can also be created entirely from new fabric. You may provide fabric, or I can source it for the project.
Stains, tears, wear, and fragile areas don’t necessarily rule out a piece. I’ll work around them when possible. I can’t make damaged fabric new again, but we can often preserve the parts that matter.
Unused clothing and fabric can be returned to you or recycled, whichever you prefer.
Designing your quilt
Bring me the idea, the materials, the story—or a combination of the three.
We’ll develop the quilt together. Your preferences matter, and I’ll bring my experience with composition, color, construction, and quilting to help guide the decisions that will make the finished piece work.
Before I begin, we’ll agree on the concept, size, materials, estimated cost, and general design direction. There are no predetermined size limits; we’ll determine the dimensions that make sense for your materials, intended use, and design.
You can make changes as the quilt develops. Changes that require new materials or reworking completed portions may add to the cost and extend the timeline. Once the quilt is loaded for quilting, the design is considered final.
Timing & finishing
Custom and memory quilts are typically completed within four months of concept confirmation.
A 50% deposit reserves your project and allows work to begin. The remaining balance is due when the quilt is complete. Any changes that affect the price will be discussed with you before I proceed.
A custom label can be added to document the people, dates, story, or other details you’d like the quilt to carry forward.
Projects don’t have to be local. Materials can be shipped to Quilt Kith & Kin, and completed quilts can be shipped back to you. Shipping costs are the customer’s responsibility, and we’ll discuss packing and shipping before anything irreplaceable goes into the mail.
Let’s make something worth keeping.
If you have an idea for a quilt—or a box of fabric you’ve been keeping because you can’t quite bring yourself to part with it—you don’t need to know yet what it should become.
